A Quiet Sunday - perhaps...

After a gap of more than a week, we spent yesterday 'morning' at the allotment - and came home about 4 o'clock laden down with runner beans, tomatoes, courgettes, borlotto/cannellini/kidney beans, apples, pears, rhubarb, raspberries, blackberries, half a dozen plums, peppers, chillies, tiny cabbages and cauliflowers, potatoes, broccoli, radishes, blackberries, raspberries......

Now I just have to work out some menus for the week to eat it all up!

Picked earlier this week

It's the time of year when every allotment trip sees us coming home laden down with lots and lots of veg.....
courgettes, white radish, cucumber (first of the season)
huge box of onions as we decided to lift them all
 runner beans, peas and spinach

 french beans and broccoli
a smallish cabbage, lifted before it burst

and a mix of blackberries and late raspberries

I forgot though to photograph the tomatoes which have moved rapidly from being a rarity to having too many!

Picked this week - up to Christmas

Just before Christmas we pulled in a quick trip to the allotment - and were surprised at how much we found to bring back for dinner.

A reasonably sized cabbage - though, when it was peeled, it turned out bugs of some sort had eaten a lot of it!
a couple of stringy radishes

broccoli

from the greenhouse at home - two very late chillies
and from both garden and allotment, a mix of spinach and american land cress.

On Boxing day though, we had a quick heavy fall of snow which shows no signs of melting away even now, three days later, so no more veg picking for a while.

Picked this week - 23rd November

Still no frosts  - which is just as well, as I'd forgotten these chillies in the home greenhouse.
Very wet though so only one trip to the allotment this week - but managed to find radishes, a couple of overlooked beetroot....

...spinach and broccoli

and a variety of cabbage

Picked this week - 9th November 2014

Here we are, well into November, and still picking raspberries and tomatoes - even a courgette and some tiny chillies!

Some more seasonal produce too - small cabbage, a reasonably-sized head of broccoli at last, spinach and beetroot.

Carrots being given away at the allotment again, with a couple of late 'summer' turnips and blue winter radish

Monday, 27 October 2014

Picked this week - 26th October 2014

For a while, I thought this was going to be a lean week - the tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and courgette above were all hubby brought home from a mid-week trip to the allotment...
fortunately we both went down on Saturday...

 more soft fruit..
a bunch of spinach and american land cress
another courgette, a bit small but I'd sooner pull it than it get frosted
 clearing more tomato plants
tiny cabbage and equally tiny handful of broccoli
 better luck with radishes

a mix of various beans and peas

and this week's flowering 'weeds' - verbena bonariensis and love in a mist

Monday, 14 April 2014

Picked this week - 13th April 2014

First the rhubarb being forced decided to throw off its pot so I picked it

then I picked a little from the allotment

then went back later in the week and picked a lot!
Looks like being a good year for it.

At last I'm giving up on the broccoli - getting really scrappy now so time to lift these plants and get new ones in.

Also clearing out bolting cabbage from the garden veg beds

while down at the allotment, there's nicer solid cabbages to be picked

Lots of spinach for now but the plants will have to be lifted soon to make way for potatoes

a couple more leeks

tiny spring onions

overwintered roots -  beetroot...

.. radishes...

...and swede
